Office Word 2007 Password Protect On Vista

Hi there,
I have some MS Term docs that I would like to open on my notebook which is operating Vista.
The paperwork ended up developed with MS Phrase office 2000 and operate good on my XP desktop Computer with workplace 2007.
But when I open up them with office 2007 on my Vista laptop computer they open as just encoded characters.
It looks they perform very good on XP but not on Vista? I have tried using transferring them several instances and they are not password protected.

    The compatibility pack is for using Word Vista (2007) files with EARLIER versions of Word (2000, 2002, 2003).

    It sounds like you may not have installed the right converters on your Vista laptop. Try installing them with the Office Vista CD.
