I need word, powerpoint etc as i am on a teaching course in the uk. cheapest package i can find online is £40. i don’t know much about computers and am just wondering f this sort of thing is available free anywhere to download? it needs to be compatible with the school’s system so would prefer microsoft.
also is £40 a good price and is “software for students” a reputable site?

ususally these sortt of things are handled between a university and microsoft. At my school students can get the student version for about $ 20 bucks off of retail price, but faculty/staff can get the pro version for $ 10. (no i did not forget a zero)

Yes if you are in a technical course that is a MSDN partner. I heard you can also get Discounts for software from MS: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/studentoffer/default.aspx
